Admissions Coordinator, PsychotherapistMikaela Cloyd, LPC

Mikaela Cloyd serves as the Intake Coordinator and Psychotherapist for the Residential Treatment Program at the Center for Success and Independence. Mikaela earned her Master’s in Clinical/Counseling Psychology from Midwestern State University and her Bachelor’s in Psychology from Stephen F. Austin State University. During graduate school, she gained experience working with adolescents and adults in the university Psychology Clinic, North Texas State Hospital, and an LGBTQ+ counseling center. In her free time, Mikaela enjoys spending time with her dogs and family.

Admissions Coordinator, PsychotherapistSabrina Munoz, LMSW

Sabrina Munoz serves as an Admissions Coordinator and Psychotherapist with the Residential Treatment Program at The Center for Success and Independence. Sabrina earned her Master’s in Social Work at the University of Houston and her Bachelor’s in Social Work from the University of Texas at Austin. Her background includes working with foster youth and foster/adoptive families, children and caregivers facing the aftermath of incarceration, and adults in an acute care setting. She is a Licensed Master Social Worker dedicated to serving adolescents and their families at TCSI through individual, family, and group therapy. In her free time, Sabrina enjoys baking, trying new foods, spending time outdoors, and hanging out with her family and friends.

PsychotherapistLaura Brown, LMSW

Laura Brown, LMSW is a psychotherapist in the residential treatment program at The Center for Success and Independence. She provides individual, family and group therapy to adolescents and their families. She received her Master’s in Social work with a specialization in Health/Behavioral Health from the University Of Houston Graduate College Of Social Work and has a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts with a minor in Dance from Rollins College of Art & Science. Prior to working at the Center, Laura worked in Foster Care/Adoption as a clinician and Program Coordinator for DePelchin Children’s Center, where she created and implemented their Therapeutic Foster Care program. Laura was also previously an intern counselor at the Montgomery County Women’s Center, where she provided individual and group therapy to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Laura believes in meeting a client where they are and working with the strengths present in the client and their environment to enact change. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, children, and dogs as well as reading, starting new artistic projects for her family or home, and running.

PsychotherapistKatie Smiley, LCSW

Katie Smiley serves as a psychotherapist that provides individual, group, and family therapy to adolescents and their families. Katie is also a member of the EMDR team. She joined the TCSI team as a graduate intern and after graduating joined the team full time in the Trauma Victim Treatment Program. Katie now serves as a psychotherapist in the residential treatment program. Her clinical interests include EMDR, DBT, CBT, trauma work, and substance abuse. She received her bachelor’s degree (BSW) from Baylor University, and a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Houston. In her free time Katie enjoys hiking, yoga, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

PsychotherapistJessica Taylor, LCSW

Jessica Taylor, LMSW serves as a psychotherapist with the Residential Treatment Program, where she facilitates, individual, family, and group therapy. Jessica Taylor began her career in her home state of Arkansas, where she pursued her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Arkansas. It was after completing her degree she began working in adolescent Residential Treatment as a direct care staff, supervisor and case management. It was, through this experience she returned to the University of Arkansas for her Master of Social Work. Jessica is dedicated to working with adolescents and relocated to Houston to further pursue her career in treating adolescent victims of sex trafficking and substance use through the Center’s Trauma Victim Treatment Program. Jessica’s clinical interests include DBT, EFFT, trauma informed care, and attachment work. Jessica’s interests include spending time with her friends and her dog, Rico.

PsychotherapistHaley Qualman, LMSW

Haley Qualman is an LMSW who serves as a Psychotherapist with the Residential Treatment Program at The Center for Success and Independence. Haley earned her Master’s in Social Work at the University of Houston and her Bachelor’s in International Relations and Economics from the University of Texas at Austin. While working towards her Master’s, Haley worked in the juvenile justice center with adolescents on probation. Prior to working at The Center, she completed an internship and clinical fellowship with The Council on Recovery. During this time, Haley facilitated both intensive and supportive outpatient treatment programs, a DBT-informed skills group, and a Mindful Eating process group. In her free time, Haley enjoys spending time with her family and pets, creating art, and cooking new dishes.

PsychotherapistBrittany Murphy, LMSW

Brittany Murphy, LMSW serves as a psychotherapist at The Center for Success and Independence’s residential treatment program. Brittany is a Licensed Master Social Worker; earning her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Houston. Prior to obtaining her MSW, Brittany graduated from Drexel University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. Brittany has experience working with both adolescents and adults in acute care settings, and has a passion for helping people build out skills to better cope with life’s stressors. In graduate school, Brittany interned with a local church, providing community services to a largely Latinx population and with The Daring Way™ where she was trained in the experimental methodology based off the research of Brené Brown, Ph.D.. In her role at TCSI, Brittany facilitates individual, group, and family therapy and helps facilitate change through the use of motivational interviewing and an integrative style of various modalities including psychodynamic theory, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectal behavior therapy(DBT). In her free time, Brittany enjoys getting into nature, activity outdoors, spending time with her pets, attending live music events, and exploring locally and internationally.

Intensive Outpatient Program PsychotherapistCassandra Montemayor, LPC-Associate

Cassandra Montemayor serves as a psychotherapist with the Intensive Outpatient Program at the Center for Success and Independence. Cassandra earned her Master’s in Counseling – Clinical Mental Health Specialization and Bachelor’s in Psychology from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. In graduate school, Cassandra interned at an integrated health clinic in the Rio Grande Valley, providing quality counseling services including preventative care and education to medically indigent individuals and their families. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate who is passionate for serving adolescents and their families at TCSI through individual, family, and group therapy. In her free time, Cassandra enjoys going to the gym, and spending quality time with her family and friends.

Grace Verges is a Licensed Master Social Worker who serves as a psychotherapist with the Intensive Outpatient Program at the Center for Success and Independence. Grace earned her Master’s in social work with a specialization in children and families at the University of Texas,  Arlington. She received her Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Texas State University. While pursuing her graduate degree, she worked in a recovery setting providing counseling services and facilitating parenting and drug education curriculum. Prior to her position at The Center, she completed an internship serving children and families, implementing skills training and case management services. Grace is passionate about serving adolescents and their families through therapy. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends, family, and her pets.

Director of Clinical Services & PsychotherapistBarbara Carroll, LCSW

Barbara Carroll’s clinical focus is strength-based, attachment-focused and trauma-informed. Barbara received her Bachelor of Social Work from The University of Houston-Downtown in 2015, and her Master of Social Work from The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 2016. At Michigan, Barbara’s educational program focused on interpersonal clinical practice with children and adolescents. She has received additional training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Motivational Interviewing, and Trust Based Relational Intervention. Barbara has worked with youth in multiple adverse situations, including youth experiencing homelessness, in foster care and in the juvenile justice system. In her spare time Barbara enjoys live music, superhero movies and bicycling.

PsychotherapistGuillermina Walas-Mateo, LPC-Associate

A former academic in the field of Hispanic Studies and Culture, Gui is a bilingual therapist who holds a PhD in Spanish from the University of Pittsburgh and a MS in Counseling from the University of Houston Clear Lake. She is TF-CBT certified and has extensive training in Mindfulness, TBRI, art-based interventions and trauma-informed practices with cultural sensitivity as a key component to help youth and their families overcome adverse situations. While working towards her Master’s, Gui volunteered and interned with The Children’s Center in Galveston, Texas A&M Career and Counseling Center (Galveston), as well as in private practice providing services to crime victims, and at The Bridge Over Troubled Waters with domestic violence victims and families. Since joining TCSI, she has been working with youth in the juvenile justice system, providing individual, family and group therapy. When not working as therapist, Gui enjoys being a mom, reading, writing, taking long walks admiring nature, and playing with her dog Coco.
